The Walther PK380 is purposeful, short recoil operated locked breech semi automatic pistol. This is particularly important for people who find it difficult to pull back the slide in order to load semi-auto pistols. One of the main features of the PK380 is its convenient recoil system incorporated with its splendid ergonomic design. The shooters grip has been placed high and much closer to the barrel centerline hence mitigating recoil and providing a more comfortable grip when firing the pistol. The pistol is safe to carry with its eight shot stainless steel magazine, fully loaded in the chamber, owing to multiple safety mechanisms.

The PK380 is a compact pistol, but surprisingly offers a full grip for excellent control. The Pk380, as mentioned earlier is much easier to shoot and handle than any of the guns belonging to its class. It can also easily fit in a front jeans pocket. The Walther PK380 has a hammer-block thumb safety mechanism, in addition to the firing pin block. The firing pin cannot contact a primer unless the trigger is pulled. The PK380 has a conventional double action/single action working mechanism. The pistol is carried with the hammer down and a live round in the chamber, during normal use. Releasing the thumb safety and pulling the trigger will fire the first round double action and successive rounds in the single action mode.

The thumb safety should not be mistaken for a hammer drop; it merely rotates a block of steel to prevent the hammer from getting in contact with the firing pin. The hammer can be safely lowered manually later. Both double and single action trigger pulls feel smooth and good, and the pull pressures measure 10.25 lbs. and 4 lbs. 13 oz. respectively.

Given its conceal carry size and weight, the PK380 offers great ability for rapid yet accurate fire while its ergonomic design allows hitch free holstering and speedy presentation during situations with need of a self defense sidearm.
